Default Engine Mods/Rebuild

I dont know too much bout all the ins and outs of the motor and where I get my biggest gains at.. I just know I want a pretty fast/powerful stang (88 GT).. I'm thinking bout having some work done on my motor(possibly a complete rebuild), and was hoping to get close to 400HP.. What are some of things I should/must do, and how much $$$$ would I be spending... Any input is appreciated.

Heads!!!! cam, intake and exhaust. Remember, the engine is just one big air pump that houses large explosions in its cylinders. Increase the airflow, increased HP. The heads are probably the most important area to worry about. To get 400 HP, look to spend quite a bit! Horsepower ain't cheap.

Find a reputable machine shop in your area and spend some time with the owner/workers. See what they can do for you that's in your budget. I recommend shopping around for parts also. I think the actual cost of everything in my engine was around $4500, but I ended up with $1800. But I also took my time to find all the deals and connections. I've heard with those 5.0's that the bottom ends are pretty stout stock, so as converted said, try out the heads/intake/cam combo. And exhaust is always a must.</P>

AS far as the exhaust, I've got 2 Chamber flowmasters and a H Pipe with no cats.. Mac Long Tube Heads.. I've got 3.73 gears put in it... I got a 75MM throttle body, but I dont think I'm gettin much out it due to the fact I'm still on Speed Density.. Just figured that when I convert to Mass Air I should do all my engine mods around the same time...

If the fuel maps are right, Speed Density is actually faster. But that being said, the minute you make a change with a speed density car, the tune is no longer optimal. When you have all the work done, you will either need to have a custom burnt chip just to make the car run or you will have to have the mass air system on it.

Do the MAF conversion first. then get a head, cam, and intake combo from holley or edelbrock or someone like that. Get yourself a nitrous kit and you should be pretty happy.
