Synchro replacement or new trans
The fox im looking at has a problem with the reverse synchro, and im guessing the first synchro is bout to die too...what would be more cost effective; A. Get someone to replace/rebuild the synchros (idk anything bout manual trans's) B. Get another used t-5 to eventually be replaced later C. Swap to a TKO 600? (also, whats involved in a tko swap?) or a 3550

reverse synco??? T-5s are non syncronized reverse lol, thats y they say to put it in first then reverse, and yes t-5s suck but you can rebuilt the t-5 for 200 if you do it yourself, or if your local i can help you with it, and a manual trans is a peace of cake, just pay attention to how u take it apart, or fin hanlen motorssports web site they have a great step by step for rebuilding a t-5

Does the clutch engage rite at the floor? Too much free play.
The clutch may not be releasing fully or the pilot bearing could be grabbing the input shaft. If it is hard shifting when driving then the trans would need to be torn down and inspected. But I am suspecting the clutch. Try lifting up on the pedal and pressing down to see if it clicks and adjusts. The stock self adjusting quadrant's are junk. Switch to an aluminum quadrant and adjustable cable and it will allow you to properly adjust the clutch.
Rebuilding the T5 is not difficult. You need a hydraulic press and a bearing splitter. There are several step by step tutorials on the net for free just search for it.
I purchased parts, a rebuild kit, and step by step video from Bob Hanlon.
I also replaced the second gear and the 1-2 slider and added the steel throw out bearing support.
I spent about $400. fixing and rebuilding my T5 myself.
The Tremec is nice but a lot of $$$ for the conversion and the $400. I spent would not have even put me close to one.

Yes, very normal. If you can find a reputable tranny shop you can have it rebuilt for a decent price. There's a shop here in Dallas that will rebuild T5's for $450. They've done great work for hundreds of people on a local forum, including myself. Just shop around and see what you can find out about them before you commit.

well if its normal, then theres no problem...the only time iv encountered that before was on heavy duty std trans's on some trucks. i didnt know it was non synchro. thats upsetting.

The newer T5s do have syncronized reverse. I'm not sure when they started I think it was 90'. T5s are very simple to fix, and in my opinion they are good transmissions. I'm not to fond of the TKOs because they are so hard to shift. The T5 is a very smooth shifting box and even with the aftermarket gears you can get it is still easy to shift. If your budget permits it get the Astro Performance Super T5 gear set or G Force's gears.

As for the tko, i have no problem shifting it, its actually quite comfortable to me, cuz im a pritty big guy. i like knowing exactly where my shifts are going and knowing the moment they get there, which is why a tko and a hurst sst are goin in eventually.
