TAP BROKEN OFF IN HEAD !!!!!! HELP !!!
So i go to put the valve covers on and i start with the passenger side. I get all the bolt in but 1, and i just couldnt get it in. So i took the vavle cover back off and saw there was something down int he hole and i just couldnt get it out. It turns out to be a broken off tap. You can tell someone tried to drill it out, cuz the top of the hole is bigger than the bottom and larger than all the others. So we have no idea how to go about getting it out. Any ideas ?
I'm almost positive the guy sold the heads for that reason. And you can tell that he dried to drill right beside another thread. Pics below.
Any advice on how to get this out would be great.
My one friend whos a mechanic said sprayin a bunch of "make a gasket" might do the trick and just not use a bolt there. But its on the lower side of the head and i'm pretty sure it would eventually leak.

RE: TAP BROKEN OFF IN HEAD !!!!!! HELP !!!
just leave the valve covers off, that way you can get more air into your engine.......
Na, J/K, btu seriously, try and get a small drill bit and an EZ out. I dont think ive ever seen an EZ out that small but im sure they make one. That would be my first try

RE: TAP BROKEN OFF IN HEAD !!!!!! HELP !!!
The taps are made of very brittle material. I broke one off in an exhaust manifold a few years back. I took a sharp pointed punch and a hammer and kept hitting it until it just broke apart. G/L!!

The guy helpin me called one of his friends that used to be a machinist and the guy said to hit it till it broke too. So just use a sharp pointed punch, and wack away ?

RE: TAP BROKEN OFF IN HEAD !!!!!! HELP !!!
I'll wack away tomorrow. It just really pissed me off because things were goin pretty good. Not much left. I was all happy and pumped up, then this. I'll check out the EZ out thing too. I got a job at advanced auto for the time being, while i figure out what i'm gonna do with my life, so i get a fairly decent discount, i think like 40 % or something.
This is what we got done so far. Not much more.....
EDIT: The dizzy goes on after the upper, right ?

RE: TAP BROKEN OFF IN HEAD !!!!!! HELP !!!
I had this same thing happen to me on a head bolt hole. They actually make broken tap extractors. They have 3 rods that slide out in between the flutes of the tap. On the other end is a square drive for your wrench or tap handle. It cost me $20 for something I will probably never use again but it was worth it.

RE: TAP BROKEN OFF IN HEAD !!!!!! HELP !!!
If you cant shatter the tap. After a few hits with a punch it may loosen enough to twist it out with thin needle nose pliers. If not grind it out with a dremel tool. I doubt they make a tap extracor that small. Protect the engine from contamination while removing the tap.
