Default 10's on a stock block???

easy simple question.... is a 10 second car possible with a SN-95 with a 302 stock block.. no weight reduction... at least no interior stripping.... and i needs to be streetable... i have a 95 cobra and was thinking of possibling stroking it to a 347 with a nice port/polish job on the gt-40 heads and performance cam.... i was also thing off a simple vortech s/c with an anderson powerpipe.... any input???

maybe.... with a really good suspension and tranny. Your block probbaly wouldnt hold up very long at that power level though

that combo will get you into the mid-high 11's

you'll over power a stock block trying to hit 10's in your car and wont be very streetable.
SN95's are kinda heavy.

a 347 w/ boost on a stock block is definately overpowering it.

you can boost a 302 or you can stroke a 302 ..........
do both and its only a matter of time........

need better heads for a 347 too, AFR 185's or Canfield 195's at least.

yes it can be done, weight is a little issue, i have 2 buddies w/ 347's that dyno over 500 rwhp, 1 at 518 in a sn95 , and 1 at 520 something in a '92 lx.

the '92 goes 10.80's, the '95 has never seen the track

it's ez to trim weight, alot depends what you are willing give up

so basically i could get close to 10secs but it wont last long... ill romp on a few times and thay will be it??..... what is the max rwhp a 302 can handle??? if i cant stroke and s/c what is better... s/c or stroker??? and which is easier on the engine? also are ported gt-40 heads goin to flow just as good as a aftermarket head... i heard they do for the most part... until u get into the huge heads like a 205... and what kinda cam?? i guess custom gird is the best way to go.. also what bout the cobra intake... i would like to keep it for stock looks... i kinda want a sleeper look... like oh its just a simple cobra NOT... so i was goin to try and keep stock heads and intake ... any info with any of hte information i gave would be nice... oh also i plan on running a 3.55 cuz and my mind its pretty much made up... its not a track car its a street car.... so i dont want it to be a pain in the *** to drive.... or loss to much gas mileage either.... 3.55 seems like a friend gear i guess is what im saying.... newayz more info plz

It can be done with the right parts. Those heads will be a bottle neck unless you install bigger valves and hog the the heck out of it and for that cost and gainyou may want to considerheads with more cfm's. TFS track heat or AFR 185'swith their2.02 valvewill work. Acustom grind camis a consideration but if you get an off the shelf cam you'll probably need one with lift in themid to upper .500" favoringmore lift and duration on the exhaust side.
A "stock" block can go 10's all day *providing* it's machined, blueprinted, balanced, assembled and tunedproperly. You're probably going to turn the motor between 6.5kto 7k rpms, so balancing is important to reduce harmonics. Harmonics are rough on bearings. Also, A/F ratio is very important. Keep it in check.
A friends '88, w/302 & S-Trim,weighs close to 3400lbs and runs 10.8's @127, so a full weight '95 will need 550-600rwhp.

You want to match the gear to the power ofthe motor you plan to build, but it looks like 3.55's is what you'll need. You want to keep the rpms in the right rpm and not rev the motor past it's power bandthrough the traps. Otherwise it'll fall on it's face unless you build the motor to turn a lot of rpms like those factory stock or pure street cars turn.
