Default Patching up a rust hole?

Im picking up this stang for $500. Its an 88 with MAF conversion 5-speed. The paint is ****ty though and it has some rust. There is a 1 inch hole by the fuel door. How would I go about patching this up so there isnt a hole?

the proper way is to cut out the cancer (rusted area) and have a new piece welded in, or cheat and use bondo, not sure how well it will hold.

as long as its metal, you may have to shape the metal a bit, make sure you get all the cancer, it is the best way to do it btw.

you will have to grind the welds down and get both pieces of metal completely smooth, if prepped right, no one would ever know that body work was done.

a paint shop can weld a piece of tin there etc for cheap, smooth and bondo the area, bu i fear you may have more rust than just that spot.

Id bead blast the whole panel or car to see what you really bought, one of my fenders had 4 colors and bondo over rust that was bubbling, it got replaced.

if you can do it and want a permanent fix, drill out the spot welds, (dont overdrill) remove the panel, replace it, spot weld the new, grind welds smooth, paint.

ive seen repairs last from 8 months to 4 years.

This kit includes everything you need to professionally repair rusted out panels. Your kit includes Metal Ready, POR 15 Rust Preventive Paint, P40 to repair holes in the panel, P38 to finish filling and for minor dents and scratches, Tie-Coat a sandable primer to lock in the filler and form a smooth surface when sanded to paint your choice of topcoat over. Enough for 2 to 3 good size repairs.
