yeah it is a longer stroke than stock like the stock stroke is 3" and a 331 has 3.25" and a 347 has 3.4" i wanna build a 318 cause i have heard they are pretty stout but i am leaning twords the 347 since it isnt a daily driver

A stroker, or stroked motor has a diffrent set of rods and crankshaft and pistons. The longer stroke increases displacement, and increases HP and TQ. Im pretty sure you can stroke a motor and use the stock pistons. Boring a motor out is done to clean the cylinder walls from scoring and scratching, so a new surfac can be used. Boring only increases displacement by a few CI, and should not be confused with a way to add power, although the couple extra CI help a negligable amount

thanks guys i understand now. if my engine dosen't turn over tomorrow then we are thinking about getting it rebuilt or going for a 351w. but my dad dosen't want to put me in a fast car as its my first and i don't blame him. we are thinking about a 331 stroker or a 351w. my dad can't say anything because his first car was a '74 nova with around 450 hp. but thanks for the help!
