Default 4 cylinder trans into a 5.0

Does anybody know specifically what you have to do to switch a 4 cylinder trans into a 5.0? I've been told all you need is to change out the pilot. Is it a bearing or bushing, and which one are you supposed to use? Can't seem to find any definite answers anywhere. Thanks in advance....

Pilot bearing and bushing are the same thing. I'm pretty sure you need a ranger pilot bearing but I'm not sure what year.

Well the reason I'm doing it is I just bought the trans, but it's a 4 cylinder, and the one I have now has blocking rings out in 3rd and 4th gear so it grinds, and I'm pretty sure the countershaft bearings are gone because it has a bearingnoise until I hit 4th gear...so I'm gonna slap this 4 cyl tranny in, rebuild the one I have and throw it back in, and basically use the 4 cylinder for a backup trans. I guess I'm just gonna buy a 4 cylinder bearing and see if it fits in and everything and I'll let y'all know how it turns out.

My site seems to be on the fritz right now, but I do have a couple of part numbers for the pilot bearing.
Check on the 'Frequently Requested P/N' page...

These came up in previous threads, so I can't personally vouch for them being right.

let us know how it works,
jason

The one listed on your frequently requested p/n's will work, it has the same O/D as the 5.0 bearing but the correct ID for the 4 cyl input shaft...now I know what to get for sure, thanks!
