RE: trouble shooting this sound
It could be a syncro...
My cable snapped and when I replaced it with OE and the car grinded 2nd almost to the point where I couldnt use it. 94gt recommended adjustable kit and I got the steeda one with the quadrant cable and firewall adjuster and it helped but didnt fix the problem. Little did I know my tranny crossmember rotted away on one side and the torque from the motor and the motion from the pedal was pulling the tranny to one side so I wasnt getting as much throw in the pedal so I replaced the crossmember and thank god I bought that adjustable kit ( Thanks 94gt! ) after a simple adjustment my car not only runs great but I never grind 2nd and the clutch seems to be grabbing well. Adjustable for the win!

RE: trouble shooting this sound
I have a bad synchro on 3rd gear in my tranny, and guess what... It only grinds when I shift fast..
The tell tale signs of a synchro going bad is that it will grind if you shift fast, because it cant properly engage. As the synchro wears further, it will grind MORE...
A rebuild kit for your trans is only about $200 and can be installed in a day.
Just rebuild the tranny, You will probably find that your clutch is NOT worn out, however I would still recommend you get an adjustable cable/quadrant/firewall adjuster setup.. asap

RE: trouble shooting this sound
i crawled under the car today and adjusted the cable some more...its a steeda adjustable cable that is 1 week old now. The fork the threads from the cable run through is loose and wobbly, is it supposed to be like that? Also it was low on fluid, i filled it up and its grinding still. Would that loose fork sticking out of the side affect anything?
