Default Normal Operating Temp

Whats an average operating temperature for a 5.0 ? Mine was staying right at 170-190 today while I was driving around. 190 is pretty high isn't it? I replaced the water pump yesterday because I want to make sure it stays nice and cool. plus I got two 12" fans that run constantly. Is my car getting hotter than it should?

Ok good. 190 is as hot as it got all day. I think it may also have to do with the fact my car is geared REALLY low. I was cruising at 60 and it was revving way up there. My tach isn't hooked up yet so i dont know how high. I got long tubes headers too , not ceramic or heat coated or anything , so they dont help much either.

180 is the normal operating temperature, but if you have an electric fan it normally goes to 190. 190 isn't something you should really be worrying about anyways.....but a little higher I would.

Well also I was running mostly water in my radiator too. I put a new water pump on yesterday and didn't get to pick up some fluid until later. So you think that might drop the temp alittle when i put fluid in it instead of the water?

use water wetter by redline and put in a 180 stat...if both fans are running and it's staying @ 190 it might be a lil
hot in the future look into a 3 row rad there about 125.00

I do not know about the redline, but you can get purple ice at Napa.
