i was just curious about what is measured in an engine that makes it either a 302 or a 351 etc. is the block the same size and the cylinder is bigger?if a new 351 block was purchased then do normal aftermarket heads fit it ?????? please someone help. thanx

Block displacement is calculated by two things. Cylinder bore diameter and stroke length. 302 and 351 blocks share the same bore diameter what differs is the stroke length. To achieve a longer stroke length in the 351 they raised the deck height(it's taller). Cylinder heads are interchangable but intakes are not. Not to mention anything mounting to the cylinder heads would be raised causing 302 to 351 swap problems. Unless you want 390 cubic inches plus I'd go 347 with a 302 based block. Save yourself the hassle.
