Dash Removal
Remove two screws at top of dash (7mm):
Remove two screws holding collar on steering column (phillips head):
Remove three screws holding knee panel in (8mm), and then pull out the two clips, one on each side holding the panel on:
Remove the metal plate behind the knee panel, 2 (8mm) bolts:
Pull the cluster housing away from the dash:
Remove the wire harness for the headlights and the dead switch by pulling them out of the back of the switch:
Remove the wire harness for the hazard flasher and convertible top if applicable by pulling them out of the back of the switches:
Remove the 4 (7mm) bolts holding the gauge cluster in:
Now pull out the gauge cluster slowly. It is connected in the back by the speedometer cable, which is right behind the speedometer, and two other harnesses. Get you hand to the bottom right of the cluster and remove the lower harness by pinching the sides of the connector together and pulling it out. Then move to the connector at the top left of the cluster and again pinch the sides of the connector together and pull to remove. Finally to remove the speedometer cable, depress the clip holding the cable onto the speedometer and pull. Now you are able to remove the gauges.
This removal was done so that I could replace some light bulbs, and so that I could remove the core of the speedometer cable to grease it. If you have any questions dont hesitate to ask. 85 mustang instructions also available if needed.

lots of people would find it easier to remove the wiring to the headlight/hazard switches before you begin to unscrew anything.
2 tabs and the switches pop right out of the bezel, and then unplug from there.
pre-90 cars have shorter wiring and it must be done this way.

yea, for some it would be easier to just remove the switch before unplugging the wires, so it can be done either way, yea this is like the 3rd time ive had to take the gauges out, i did it a few weeks ago, because my tachometer stopped working, so i got a new one off ebay, and then i took it out yesterday to replace some bulbs and stop the speedo from bouncin..also i dont know how to sticky this, or put it in the tech articles, is that something i can do or something a mod has to do?
