replacing rack bushings

Default replacing rack bushings

is it going to be difficult for me to replace my rack bushings? i've done a search and cannot seem to find any instructions. can i do it with rack's lines still hooked up?

Not really, if they are bad they will just about fall off the car once the steering rack is removed.
I did mine when I changed over to manual steering last year, just sort of a 'push them in' deal........

will i be able to leave the lines connected to the rack and move it enough to replace the bushings? same with the tie rods? i'm hoping i can just remove the nuts on the front and move the rack forward enough to replace the bushings.

i just replaced my rack a few days ago and found it easier to disconnect the lines after i pulled the rack out of the way a little. so yes you can replace the bushings without removing the lines. i would go ahead and look the rack over and make sure its in good condition. if your unbolting everything for bushings, its not much harder to replace the whole thing.

i forgot to ask..will i need to disconnect the steering shaft also or will it move enough with that attached?

you will have to remove the bolt from the steering shaft on the rack side. i believe it is a 12mm 12pt bolt

I never did the job...but I thought that you could pry the rack out enough (without removing any lines) to replace the bushings...

Here are some instructions....they are for Lowering Springs, but on step 25 they replace the steering rack bushings...
