to be honest with you the wire coming from the starter soleniod ( starter mounted) looks likea ground wire, i just dont want to ground it and then short something out.

that starter is self grounding. dont add any grounds to it.
you should have 2 large terminals on the starter-mounted solenoid, and 1 small wire.
one of the large terminals is the ground, it should have a braided steel wire that connects to the starter itself. the other large terminal is your battery power.
the small terminal is for the S wire. this is the wire that comes from the ignition switch, to trigger the solenoid.

no, the starter solenoid( mounted on the starter) is what engages the starter drive gear with the flywheel. The starter relay( fender mounted) is what allows the starter to get power from the battery by closing the ciruit. what year is your mustang?

ok you are crossing your words here. i was referring to a fender mounted solenoid, not a relay.
you said you were using both solenoids, because the 87 car would have a fender solenoid, and the 92 motor uses a starter mounted solenoid.
