becuz the 5v reference is looped around between the sensors, and it originates at the MAF

really? hmmm
so your thinkin maybe a loose or broken wire around the MAF, or even the maf itself.
but no check engine codes came on for that so i dont think it's the sensor

looking at a wiring diagram here, and those 2 dont seem to intersect at all.
black is ground.
and red goes straight to the computer ( sensor signal feed ) PIN 46
and green also goes straight to the computer ( Throttle sensor feed ) PIN 47

it has to be the red wire, somewhere.
even if the ground was bad somehow, the 5v reference would still come though, just the TPS wouldn't output a signal.

Check the 5vdc VREF at the other sensors it is shared with (EVP=EGR sensor & BP/MAP sensor)....also check it using a good ground or the battery (-) post, if 5vdc show up .....the SIGRTN circuit could be fubar.

yah. the signal return circuit, where the CPU receives the output voltage of the sensor.
