Default Quite Possibly the Strangest Thing...HELP!

Drove the car to work, no issues.

Drove the car to the gym, no issues.

Drove the car home, no issues.

My 140mph speedometer showed up and I dis-assembled the dash/gauge pod, swapped speedo's and re-installed everything.

Car will turn-over, catch, then die. No idle (or 5 seconds of dying idle), no response to throttle, nothing...

So, should Iputback the 85 mph speedo? Tell me it isn't so....

Any, and I mean any questions or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Dale

Did you mess with anything besides the gauge cluster?

The speedo cluster shouldn't have anything to do with the running problem ....did you hook all connections back in place and make sure all connections are fine and snapped in tight......did you yank on anything to remove the I/P panel cluster??

I will replace the 85 mph unit Wednesday evening.

I was gentle with the connectors and wires. I even tried to start the car without any gauge cluster in place with the same result.

I will try again tomorrow but 1) thanks for the questions/suggestions so far and 2) keep them coming.

sounds like it's doing the same thing my cars doin, and I metled the pigtail connecter that plugs in the ignition. I didn't do anything involving it either, just moved around some wires to the fenderwell and it randomly stopped workin. engine does the same as you are describing. It's worth lookin into before you go tearing into your dash agian.

From another forum, I should dis-connect the battery and let it sit for a couple of minutes.

Thoughts on that????

lol, a spedometer change has absolutely no impact on how the car runs or drives, it has one purpose, to tell you how fast you're going.
so, no it will have 0% chance of fixing it.

and the car will run fine with the gague cluster out, so your problem is somewhere else

Went looking around the egnine bay and found a random vacuum hose that was taped to the firewall. The tape had deteriorated and covered the hose, blocking it off.

So, out of curioisty I removed the tape and the car fired right up.

Here's a shot of the vacuum hose. Any ideas what it's for?????
