Default 1987 LX differentials

I searched on google, but found nothing. Did they offer the 7.5 and 8.8 on 87 LX's with the 5.0 or just the 8.8?

I think you have the 8.8. Count the bolts on the diff, if you have ten, you have the 8.8.

They all have 10 bolts except for the Ford 10.25 which has 12. I think I have the 7.5 from the bolt pattern, but I thought the 7.5 was "done away with" in 86 for the Mustangs. I need to get the codes off the axle to see what year it's from I guess.

Your car should have the 8.8.. Because yes in 86 they went with the 8.8 rear..

My bad, I thought the 7.5 had eight bolts.

All v8 mustangs from 86 on have the 8.8 in them but the 4 cyl ran the 7.5 year until 1993 So you should have a 8.8 unless someone switched it out a while ago. If you look on your tag it should have a 8.8 stamped on it. It should say 8.8 3L08 from what I recall

Thanks. When I changed the fuel filter a few days ago, it looked like the 7.5 differential cover. The VIN shows the car came with the 5.0, so I'm hoping it is the 8.8.
