Default ughh another problem

So I will be driving down the road and all of a sudden the car jolts and the rpms drop to zero. Sometimes it raises back up and continues driving normal, other times it will kill the car. Anybody know what can cause this? The maf doesent look dirty and I partially cleaned it a few days ago. I just cleaned the distributor and that fixed my bogging when the car is cold. But now this new problem is happening.

It seems like it is starting to do it more. It did it 3 times in 20 miles and the car died once.

thanks for the help.

yah it sounds like the problem one of my ex's had with her bonneville. the cam sensor wire had burnt and frayed from the firewall all the way to the computer. worn out wiring "bushing" or bezel, whatever you wanna call it, had allowed the wire to touch the sharp edge of the hole that the harness passed through, eventually causing a short in that 1 wire. car would sputter and die randomly, fire right back up and die randomly later on. took me 6 days to finish repairing the problem, after the 4 days of trying to find the problem. bonnevilles SUCK.

hmm i can pick up a new ignition switch tomorrow. It died again tonight. The rpms just drop and I have to restart. How sure are you on the problem? I just dont have much cash so is that the most likely problem or could something be dirty?

thanks for the help man.

does it do when you go over a bump? or ruff road? if so then he is right.... had the same problem and drove me crazy untill i hit the botton of the steering wheel and turned off, turned it on and hit it again and it turned off and it was the ignition switch

hmm that might be, i think when I hit a bump or POT hole It like skips, but it also just does it out of the blue on flat smooth road.

Well I took it to advanced auto parts and they said because the rpms hickup sometimes and sometimes it dies, it could be the fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump, or some other stuff but they didnt say the ignition switch was very likely.

What do u guys think?

no. a fuel problem will cause the car to die slowly, sputtering out, and you could probably keep it alive by throttling it a little bit.
you are losing spark/ignition.
