Default 347....snapped the crank

I built this 347 in May, and I must say....it was a BEAST! It was making gobbs of HP and a tron of torque and I had'nt been beaten yet. Now the bad news, I was racing a guy with all the Trickflow goodies and was pulling him hard in 2nd, then shifted to 3rd and ....no more motor. So after I drag it home, I finally start pulling parts and at first thought I'ld broke the timing chain, the motor never made a sound when it shut down, anyway finally get the timing cover off and the crank broke right at the timing gear just after the bearing.WTF? Any ideas, it was a Eagle rotating assembly, 1300 miles, I was very pleased with this motor, and will build it again after I see if there is any more damage, don't think so but havent gotten that far yet, Tell me what you think caused this.BTW I had the correct 28oz. balancer on it.

Call Eagle and say WTF....

Years ago when I had a Big Block Chevy that I built...a cam from Crane Cams snapped and I bitched big time....They ended up giving me like 2k in parts to make up for the money I had to rebuild....

honestly that seems to be a growing problem with stroker kits in 302's.
i'm no machinist so i couldnt say why, tho.

+1^ i would call them and tell them u demand a new crank and internals if they are busted also. On what caused it i would have to say maybe a bad or old cast that they were using. they might need a new cast

i really suggest this, when i had issues when i had my crank sent off they sent back the wrong crank, it fit and it plastigauged up just right. i started driving the car and it basically hit the grave at about 100 mile on the rebuild. called the company and i told them the stamped number on the crank and they paused...."oops"

i got my crank back that they sent wrong and they replace my bearings that were chewed up and all new gaskets....nothing else was really damaged.

https://mustangforums.com/m_2276831/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm if you gonna stroke use forged cranks, 1M sucks at high revs.

Machine shop balance error and over reving - 6,000 rpm also a concern with cast crap

Yeah, that sounds like a quality issue, the crank prolly had a defect in it. As far as strokers, yeah, cast is a bad idea on strokers, especially 347's

Cast steel cranks are fine, you should break a block before a cast steel
crank unless you hydro lock it or something.

You obiviously just had a defective crank either from Eagle or from the machining/assembly process

and what rpms were you spinning it to?

Eagles stuff is now made in china and not the usa anymore. Wonder if that has anything do with it?
