i have the afr 185's and love them im sure that afr's whole line of products are awsome but i am running a 331 but i would agree with everyone else it will just hurt the heads if you dont do the cam and intake at the same time cause they will hinder the flow of the heads.

I have the 165s on a 331 and love it. What ever cam you choose, call AFR and order your heads from them directly, they will set up the valve springs to accomidate what ever cam at no extra charge.

LOL they charger extra for the upgraded valve springs.

i had afr165's for a long time. they worked great on my 302 but as soon as i went 331 they were too small so i went with a pair of 205's

thanks for all the responses , kind of different question now. If i can get a whole h/c/i set up on my car over the winter , and say my car could run a 13.6 right now , what kind of time improvement do you think i could see from the H/C/I swap... like would a second be too big ... i know once your car gets quicker its harder to knock time off your et, it wasnt too hard gettin the ET down from 15.00 tho

that would be my guess since thats what everyone says, but IMO its the cam profile that should be making the difference here

I'm going to have about 3,000 grand canadian over the winter.
WOW !!! thats like 3,000,000 , and even in canadian ain't no joke.....

just playin, yeah they will help loads, you need to make almost 300 true hp to run mid 13's in your car, i had a '90 aod 'vert lx, on 3.73's it went 15.10 and on 100 shot zex kit went 13.60's

good call on the 'verter and gears, thats what you need, when you make more power, you'll see higher stall rpms as well.

the 165's w/ a decenct cam (under .500 lift) don't go too big, will wake the car up alot, my buddy is selling brand new afr 165's for $1000, i am selling my used edelbrock performer 5.0's w/ 5k miles for $800 to buy his afr's , but if mine don't sell, his are for grabs.

a decent intake is needed too, even a cobra w/ some lower port work is great will support almost 400 hp

hci will (should) get you 1 second et cut, you do need some minor port work though, other than the lower, the heads need the exhaust worked, and a valve job. clean up the intakes on the heads, and possibly deck a bit for some more compression....depends on future mods though. more compression = more heat = easier to detonate , so chose wisely to avoid another set of heads later on

btw, i don't really see 13.60's out of your car right now.........just too heavy, no offense but be happy w/ 14.00's if you can get there
