that's what i figured but ain't never touched a straigjht shift in my life any way to tell if it has any problems or whether it came from a 4 cyl or a v8 car besides the ratio

open it up and have a look to see if theres any problems... but if you havent messed w. trannys before, i dont suggest you do it... id let someone else

There should be a Borg Warner logo some where on it with some numbers near by, look for them and let us know what they are.
Also
Look at the front of the tranny and look for this thing. If it has the "Timken" bearing markings, it is a World Class version which more than likely is out of a V8, if not it is just a bushing and is either a 4 banger or older non WC V8 trans..
