Default My five speed is now a one speed!

I was traveling on I-75 with the cruise set at 75. I wasten minutes away from home when I heard a high pitched whine, then blam, no 5th. Also no 1st, 2nd, 3rd or rev. I still had 4th and was able to get home, thankfully. Although the timingwas bad being close to Xmas and all, I have about 230,000 miles on the tranny, so it wasn't a complete surprise to me since I had ridden thatpony hard and put it away wet on many occasions. I know a few of you can rebuild T5's with your eyes closed. WTF happened? How hard is it to rebuild a T5? Also, has anyone heard of these people:

Thanks.

230000 miles!!! damn. i broken 2 in the last 20,000. ive never delt with astroperformance, but i have heard of them numerous times, including 5.0 magazine. as far as rebuilding it.....im scared of mine. some people can do it, not me. but whatever u do, dont buy a used one, unless its freshly rebuilt. it never works out.

Thanks for the advice. Since I know squat about rebuilding trannys, I think I will either buy one rebuilt by someone with a good reputation or get a new T5-Z.

I do too but I can't afford it. I will have to go with a rebuild for now.

just because you have the extra gear with the t56 doesnt mean its the mack daddy of tranny's.

ever heard of a liberty pro shifted tko? i bet that thing could survive a nuclear blast hahaha

i didnt read the responses. ive had a few t5s apart now... if all you have is 4th gear... a "rebuild" wont do the trick... a rebuild is usually just syncro's and bearings(BASICALLY), what your dealing with is either a fubar countershaft, or an input shaft... both things are expensive...

id price out a rebuild+one of those parts, rebuild+ the other part, brand new t5, used t5(found mine for 200 bucks, well one of mine), tko, and a t56

youll find it cheapest to get a used t5, then for like 1k you can get a rebuilt one from ddperformance.com... i suggest that... because getting a shop to fix yours is going to be more then that...
