RE: OBDI or OBDII
obd stands for: on board diagnostics........obd 1 no matter what vehicle had varing connectors to access codes and ecm info......obd II is a standardized connector irregardless of make or model that any odb II certified scan tool can go in and access codes and have a limited data pid capability..the min what is mandated by federal gov....most obd II cars have a manufactores specific side /function where you can go in and access even more data and pid info but the scan tool must have software capabile of such

RE: OBDI or OBDII
OBD = On Board Diagnostics.....I or II is the protocol, OBD-II is a protocol standard for post '96 cars. OBD-I was the "free for all" time when every manufacturer did their own custom version for diagnostics interface, they can still do their own customization of the system, but they have to comply with a minimum OBD-II standard.
