cobra vs gt40
i found someone selling non ported gt40 intakes (upper and lower) for 400
and lmr or blueovalindustries have the cobra for 350
or a typhoon intake for 300 even
which one will perform better with just basic gasket porting,
prolly going to be hooking up to a gt40 crate engine of blueoval, looking to save up and do the engine swap around summer fall time
so itll be with an e303 cam, 1.7 rr

RE: cobra vs gt40
Typhoon is a cheap replica of the edelbrock intake, and im pretty sure hte edelbrock out flows both GT-40 and cobra
but typhoon is hit or miss iwht quality... some people have no problems, some people have a **** show

RE: cobra vs gt40
does the gasket porting solve the bad casting issues or do the issues go deeper then just that?
thinking about doing the engine swap, be about the same price of doing a rebuild and hci swap after all the labor, dont have the tools or resources to do most the labor so...
thanks for any and all info
(if i get the crate engine, will i have to gasket port the heads also? or should i expect good flow from ford)

RE: cobra vs gt40
400 is seems like a lot for a gt-40 intake, i got my new cobra for less than that. As for the gt-40 heads flowing on the crate engine your gonna get, they will be good, and yes porting them will make them better but you would first have to take the heads off an already assembled engine and you would also have to disassemble the heads. dont know if thats worth the trouble for you since you said you dont have tools/resources

RE: cobra vs gt40
thanks, also, will my bbk shorties that i have in the car fit the heads on the crate engine
and is the stock tb and egr size 60 or 65, are they worth replacing if they work now?

RE: cobra vs gt40
The stock HO TB is 60mm. Non HO like T-birds and such are 55mm.
I would go 70mm on the TB and at least 73mm on the MAF., they cost the same and if you add more power later, it will still be good.
Yes, the headers will work on the new crate motor.
