Car blows alot of smoke

Car blows alot of smoke
i have a 94 gt that has headers and O/R h pipe that likes to smoke in between shifts. i recently bumped the timing to 14* in hopes of it fixing it running so rich. before i bumped timing the car would smoke at idle and anytime you gave it gas. now that the timing is advanced the car will only smoke when you are at WOT and you shift it to another gear. as soon as you get it into the next gear it wont smoke, only in between shifts. its like alot of smoke too, you cant see anything behind me when i smokes, it fills up the whole road. i thought that thats pretty odd that it only does it between shifts. i was thinking it was worn valve guides perhaps?? was just wanting to know what you guys thought it could be.

Bumping the timing will not make it run leaner... where do you guys come up with some of these crazy ideas?
As for the smoke, it sounds like something might be hurt in the engine. I'd have to see and smell the smoke and drive it to know what might be the cause. There are many reasons an engine will smoke... but the main ones are rings, valve stem seals, head gaskets. Good luck with it.

changing timing does not change the fuel mixture...it justs determines when spark is delivered to the mixture in the cumbustion chambers.........advance it to far and spark detonation can occur retard it to much and spark is delivered later in the cumbustion process which in turn as the mixture is being blown out in to the exhaust the cumbustion process is still taking place/ burning the a/f.....this is why the header will turn cherry red if timing is retarded to far and burn exhaust valves............it sounds to me as if you have an internal engine prob such as rings or valve seals or even a head gasket issue

well it used to smoke at idle before i bumped timing and now that its bumped it doesnt and idles and runs much better. it does have an exhaust leak at the headers where the bolts are not tight, im fixing that as soon as i can. also it did blow oil out of the dipstick after i was giving it hell for a bit. i was guessing that pressure backed up in the crankcase and blew oil out. since it is a white looking smoke coldnt that be a blown headgasket??

i was just wishful thinking about the exhaust because my car does almost the same thing and i have an exhaust leak as well, which is soon getting fixed. i have a feeling its more than that though.[]

White with sweet smell = blown head gasket/ you also will get oil in you water and water in the oil (will look like chocolate sundae in the motor and oil float on top in the radiator, and if it is bad enough the compression will actually come out the radiator cap (did it on my 67 Cougar)
Black = running rich/ injector could be sticking open, bad oxygen sensor, bad IAP check for codes
white with no smell = lean/ vacuum leak dirty injectors, and same as above again check for codes
greyish blue = oil/ if it only smokes on start up then it is valve stems seals, if it is between shifts or running it hard sounds like you crank case ventilation is back up some how, and if it smokes all of the time, well the piston rings are going bad. Take it to a mechanic he will be able to tell what the smoke is from pretty quick.
