Default Weird electrical problem

I installed a DCC fan controller. Now my aftermarket gauges stay lit even when the lights are off & my Auto Meter tach doesn't work.

I did NOT touch the wiring for them. I have the gauge lighting going to the dimmer wire for the head unit.

The electric fans were in the car when I bought it & the previous owner had them wired to be on nonstop whenever the key was on via 1 wire going from the fans straight to the steering column. I cut that wire & used the portion form the fans to wire up the controller. The controller is working, but now I have this gauge problem. I checked the wire going to the column and didn't see anything spliced into it.

Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be?

Remove the wire from the dimmer wire, its a standalone circuit

The only wires going to the lighting wire on the radio are the light wires for the gauges & they were there way before the controller install & worked fine.

Sounds to me you have back fed a circuit when you installed the fan controller.

there are two wires related to the dimmer behind the radio, the dimmer and the dimmer ground. With the strange problems you are having it seems like the new gauges might be lacking either an good unit ground, or a dimmer ground and seeking that ground some other way.

Disconnect the dimmer and test that wire to see what it reads. Also try hooking it up to a different +12v source to see if it does the same thing. If it does then if obviously has nothing to do with the dimmer.
