Tried and same issue. Once you get in reverse it is fine.

doesnt sound like the clutch to me but i could be wrong, mb something internal in the tranny

what do you do when you put it in rev? just throw it in there? that doesnt work its not syncronized so it will grind throw it in a forward gear first and then in reverse it should go righ tin

Actually it was either 91 or 92 they started syncronizing reverse in the T5. My original T5 and the one I have in the car now has a syncronized reverse. I don't however think that's the problem, your clutch isn't releasing.

It has a brass blocker ring just like 5th gear. There's a small washer with a tab on it to slow down the cluster to be able to easily get it in reverse. It was either 91 or 92 that they started that, any T5 made after that year has it.

945LSTANG, are you sure it was the original transmission? All you need to do to any Fox T5 is change the input shaft and bearing retainer and it will fit right in you car. I have one torn apart in my shop from that has a syncronized reverse. I'll take some pictures and post them when I get home. The customer took it to someone to get it fixed and when the idiot put the tail housing on he broke that washer with the tab that I was talking about. That washer alone costs $50.

Here's another link and this one on page 16 has a picture of both syncronized and non-syncronized reverse set-ups. This link says they changed to syncronized reverse in mid 92.
