flex fan question?

RE: flex fan question?
electric definetely. you can buy the temp cut on switch kits from jegs for like 40 bucks. includes temp probe, wires, relay and instructions. flex fans are asking for trouble. extremely sharp, dangerous to work around, and they have a history of coming apart violently(my buddy's s-10 with a built 350 had one, came apart at like 6500 rpm at about 90mph, blade hit the oil pan, oil puked, motor died) electric fans are the upgrade, dont downgrade to mechanical. I have two junkyard fans, underdrive pulleys, a nice CD player, and a battery relocation,at idle with cd player, fans, and lights on, they battery voltage never drops below 13 volts.

RE: flex fan question?
Just to add a flex fan horror story. Abuddy of minewas tuning his camero's carband after he had itall sethe went to rev the car one last time (luckly from inside the car)and at 7 grand the flex fan flew into 3 pieces cut his belts and launched piecesover his house and into the backyard. Electric is the way to go, that camero now has an electric fanand so does my Mustang.

RE: flex fan question?
thats another reason I wanted to switch to a flex fan. I dont know if it would have helped but I have a thousand watt rms amp pushing to rockford fosgate 10s and I'm getting really bad voltage drops already. I doubt that would have helped but I thought it might.
but from listening to the horror stories I will not get one thats some scarry stuff. Cant the people that had the flex fans shread, couldnt they sew the company to at least fix the damage that it caused?

RE: flex fan question?
well, if you have that big of a system you probably should get a new alt, a voltage drop of 1 volt is a serious thing, most people dont think so, but it takes a lot more amperage to run something on an 11v system than it does on a 12 volt system. I'd leave the fan if you're not overheating, and get an alternator. The early 1990 3.8L taurus fan is the best alternative for junkyard stuff. Shroud fits almost perfect to fox radiator, and it pulls somewhere around 2500cfm's

RE: flex fan question?
what size is it?
and as for my stereo I'm either going with another battery in the back but that would weigh my car down a lot more than it already is or do the 130 amp alt swap from a newer mustang.
just curious and I know its beside the point of this post but, as soon as I got my license in november and put my subs and amp in and got new tires that werent completly slicks my clutch started going. could this have to do with the added weight and stickier tires? everyones telling me that, that wouldn't have anything to do with it. I dont slide the crap out of my clutch at all but i do live in an area with very steep hills. I drove my car for about 2 months before I got my license without the sub and sticky tires and the clutch felt great, could it just be because the tires grip better instead of just spinning?
