Default Piston Ring Orientation-Quick Question

Hastings Manufacturer

The Top Ring=? with or without groove

The Middle Ring =? with or without groove

Last Ring= Oil Ring-figured easy lol

The issue I have 2 of the same thickness Rings. One has a groove , one does not.

Both have Dots to be aimed toward the top, I know of that.

No instructions, and the ones off the old pistons were both without grooves, the one with the groove has a flat paint colored edge, the other shiny.

Im dealing with the infamous Metric Pistons [:'(]

WHERE DOES HE GO

AND THIS, IT HAS A DOT ON IT TOO

This is thirds, I KNOW WHERE IT GOES

Yeah, if one is moly it's the top ring.
well ya but the easiest way to tell is if the face of the ring that touches the cylinder is chrome, thats the top moly ring, the second is usually a ductile iron.

Yeah, that's what I meant. It's obvious which one is moly, and that's the top one. If neither are moly then it makes it a bit more of a challenge to figure out which one is the top ring. I've used Hastings ring sets before, and iirc sometimes the top or sometimes the 2nd has the notch in it. It's been a while though. I think the 2nd is USUALLY the one with the notch, so it twists on the downward stroke to have a better oil scraping effect, sorta like a squeegee.

YEAH ONE IS CHROME ON THE OUTER

the other has a nasty black type flat color, so that one is the number two?/middle.

What kills me , is the ones you take off dont have any notch, or one is moly, the other, iron

These rings cost twice as what the others do

Yeah, the silver/chrome looking ring facing that contacts the cylinder wall is the moly(or chrome if you actually have chrome rings) ring, that's the top one. The black one is the 2nd ring.

And don't feel bad on cost, my Mahle rings are about $100 a set and need to be filed to fit. Plasma moly.

Well I just had some KING ALECULAR RACING bearings imported from Israel .

These are top notch bearings.

They are WAY heavier than stock, and the outer edges form at an angle, when joined together, makes a whole(circle).
They are also designed differently than stock , to promote oil pressure and prevent bearing failure.

The guy at the track is a Machinist and uses them in his drag car with over 2,000 HP!

He states, they use a MASSIVE amount of material, stamped into a bearing, then polish them, and put silicone coating on them at a molecular level.
