have you ever used a trickflow or holley?

i have used both and let me tell you the car pulled hard from 2000-6500 with both intakes
I'm sure it did pull hard from 2,000 on, but that still don't change the fact that a intake manifold (such as the GT40) with a smaller cross section would have pulled even harder(until about 5500rpms). Now if you had a engine that was built to rev higher at around 7k+ RPM's, then a intake manifold with a larger cross section such as the holley or trickflow would clearly be the better choice. Fact is, most people that build street cars don't build motors to make their power that high up. It's not as streetable and alot more costly to do so.

So if I were to pick up a gt40 from an explorer, can I just install it how it is? How much would I expect to gain on average?

Yes, you could just bolt it on. If you are still running stock heads, you would see little gains from any intake manifold. Maybe 5-10hp tops. With a head upgrade, probably 20-40hp depending on your setup and it's demands.

Yeah, my car has DO cast heads. I know they arent anything special, but I got the car the way it is and it runs strong. It also has an Ecam. I had it dynoed and it was at 240 rwhp. So I would be plenty happy if I got around 20 hp gains.

Sorry if this may be a stupid question, but what is a DO cast head? Never heard of it.

I may sound stupid because they are on my car and I am unsure a little bit, but I am pretty sure they are 351w heads. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

if i built motor like that i wouldnt choose the track heat or the holley. i would be looking at more like the R or vic jr or EFI spyder intake.

the track heat and holley intakes are perfectly streetable.
