Default Is it difficult to replace wheel studs?

I was driving along (singing a song ...) when I started hearing a thud, thud, sqeek sqeek sqeek coming from the back of my car. I stuck my head out the window to see what the problem was ... whobbly tire. Pulled into services station to have a look 2 studs are broken off! one lug nut was slack and one was tight and holding the the wheel onto the car.

Need to replace them. Is it difficult?

Not really, just have to drive whats left of them out and then pull the new ones through, depending on your rims and lug nuts I would also get a cheap basiclug nut to help pull them in.

Hey, did a quick search and found a video http://www.expertvillage.com/video/4...=yssp_mainvids

Can't get the hub off. Is there a bolt or something?

If it is rear drum make sure the E-Brake is not on.

Doh! You wouldn't believe I was banging on that thing for an hour! Thanks.

Now...To get the old broken studds off, do I just take a hammer to it to get them out?

Yeah, they are pressed / pulled in, not threaded, check out that video I posted before, you want to hit it square to drive it out straight.

did that with the velle, just use a hammer and some finnesse, and then use a cheap lug nut, put some oil on it (to help prevent gouging the hub and such) and use the flat side and pull the lugs through

Well it's done. Gatta say I'm a bit proud of myself. First time doing it and it wasn't bad. It was tough to pull them through tho'. But they're in.

Figured, since I have the drum off, may as well sand it down and spray paint it with some high heat paint I had laying around.

Not too bad.

Thanks to all for the help.
