^ what he said, its ok to do it through there, but you want to make sure it comes out the fill plug. I have always just filled mine through the fill plug with a pump

before I put my new shifter, I drilled and tapped a hole in the base plate, for a fill plug. T5 trannies take 2.7qts.... so I just drain it, plug it, and fill'r up!

keith why did you drill and tap a drain hole? they already have drain holes in the bottom and a fill hole. drain it and then put the drain plug back in then remove the fill plug fill it through the shifter till it starts dribbling out the fill hole put the fill plug in and your good to go once you rtv your shifter in place

reading comprehension owns you...

I drilled a hole in the base plate of my shifter...

that way I dont have to remove the whole shifter every time I change my fluid... I just unscrew a plug!

I think you may have misunderstood? He's saying he put a fill plug in the base of his shifter which would let him fill it from the top without having to take the entire shifter off. Sounds like a good idea to me since it would be easier to fill.

EDIT: Adder types quicker than me, lol

B&M shifter also have that feature. Fill hole through the shifter mechanism.

As nice as that sounds. You still need to open the factory fill plug to let you know when it's full.
