RE: i need hel with getting rid of my smog pump on a 89 5.0
This is how I did it:
1. Lossen bolts holding pulley to Smog Pump, remove belt.
2. Remove Pulley and Remove2 bolts holding Smog Pump and remove.
3. Cut metal line where itcomesout ofMid Pipe, cut same metal line nearwhere it goesto headers.
4. Remove 1/2 of themetal line (The section between the 2 cuts you made)
5. Remove 2 bolts holding metal line that goes from cylinder head to cylinder head.
6. Pull other1/2 of metal line that goes from head to head (remove hose clamps as necessary to allow metal line and hoses to pulloutfrom top of engine bay.
7. Plug heads with JB weld (the one that sets in 4 min) or use bolts (5/8)-11 to plug holes.
9. Plug the two straw like vaccum lines, I pulled them out and left the rubber boot they insert in behind shock tower and caped them w/ vaccum caps ( you can use screws w/ silicon).
10.InstallBelt (I rerouted belt, DID NOT use stock routing. (Find diagram ofbelt reroute)
I would only fill hole on back of each cylinderhead w/ sealant if they are stock. Use bolts if there aftermarket, so you have the option to hook smog equipment back up.
Parts used from Napa Auto Parts:
1. Belt 25-060840 (84 1/2")
2. 2 Vaccum Caps 715-1841

easiest way is to remove all smog stuff..like pump, tab and tad valves with hoses...remove tube that runs to rear of heads and plug with a 5/8 bolt I believe or purchase thermactor plugs and plug all vaccum source lines going to tab and tad selonoids

I don't believe that will set of a check engine light. Please correct me if I am wrong. I know an EGR eliminator will, but he smog pump should not.

are the vacume lines the little tiny tubes(mine are black and white i think)and they plug into some thing on the passenger side shock tower right.sorry to sound dumb but i want to get this crap right.also the big metal line that conects to my exhaust pipes from the smog pump when i cut that off the pipe could i just plug the holes in the exhaustwith jb weld? how do i go about removing the air silencer and is it a good idea?will it make my check engine light turn on?
