Default replacing cam

Ive been told that you can take the cam out and install a new one with the motor still in the car is this true? If so how difficult is a cam swap. I know these are dumb q's but im still new to my 5.0

Pull all the accessories, pull the intake, pull the timing cover, remove lifters/pushrods pulling timing chain/gears, swap cam, install everything back on. That's basically what you're looking at.

The only thing that would cause you to have to pull the motor would be the radiator being in the way on the way out. But why do that when the radiator can come out so much easier[8D]. I know on the SN bodies the radiator has to be moved a little to complelty clear the cam but I don't think you have to pull it to do it on a fox. If so, then there is an extra 2 mins of work.

It is pretty easy swap just remember to PULL THE LIFTERS BEFORE PULLING OUT THE CAM!!!!!! Someone on here forgot to one time and heard the lifters fall into the oil pan.......OOOPPSSS!

on the foxes the only thing that really gets in the way besides acc's is the Fan, and schroud cover... It's a PITA-- a factory radiator on a fox isn't but 2-2.5"s anyway... and about 12-14"s in width... My fluidyne is a 3core is about 4x12"s... It can be done, but if it were me, i'd remove everything just so i could flush everything out as well. IMO

Yeah pretty sure you have to remove the radiator. if you aren't installing aftermarket heads or intake manifold I wouldn't bother with a cam. Too much money and work for nothing.

MJR beat me to it about the 1.5 rockers. But yes, a cam swap can be done with the engine still in the car. Just take your time and label everything.

Yea, unfortunatly I have 1.5's. What is even worse? The GT40's I bought had 1.5's on them too[:'(]. I need to take a trip to the junk yard and pick up some 1.6's until I have the cash for some rollers. Unless someone here has some stock 1.6's they want to get rid of.
