Default TO KEEP OR NOT TO KEEP 308s

I just bought an 87 GT for 2 grand. I am wondering how rare 308s are on an 87? I know a mechanic that will install gears for free. I was thinking about gettting 373s but I think they might get annoying at times. are the 308s any good as far as performance. I know the 273 arent at all- thats what i had in my 89. thanks for the help

3.08's are common in AT cars I think. Much better than 2.73's but no where near the performance of 3.73's. If you dont want to go that route there is always 3.55's

dude when you start racing and your using drag radials and your car dies at the line with the 3.55's and all the other cars are beating you then you will want to step up to the 3.73 and no0t care about the street.

na at 60 miles per hour on the high way im at like 2200 rpms. its pretty close between the 3.55s and the 3.73 in that aspect but it feels like its got more torque with the 3.73's.

I started off with 3.55's back in 94. All my friends told me the 3.73's would kill the gas mileage and what not. Well, I wasn't the best at launching and would constantly bog it off the line with ET streets on the car.

In 96 I threw in a set of 3.73's and it made a world of difference getting the car to launch. It does use a little more rpm and gas but you will be happier with the 3.73's. With the 347 in the car I usually start in 2nd gear (just driving not racing) wind it out to 2000rpm, shift to 4th, then 5th. So technically you can shift less.

NO..2;73 @ 55 IS AROUND 1450-1470

THATS WHY i RECOMMEND 3"55 FOR THE STREET.. starting off in second is a pita as your have to slightly feather the clutch out..55's you get some use and the diff in 60ft times in minimal...now if your have a WC T-5 then I would go with the :73 because of the 2.95 first gears vs the 3.36 for the reg t-5
