Default timing marks

ok went to knock back some timing for nitrous and am i missing something or what. my balancer doesnt have any timing marks just a notch. is this normal?

your balancer is probably rusty... you will need to sand it down a bit, or clean it up with a brillo pad

thats what i thought. but it was just greasy. so i wiped it off and nothing. just a notch and an HD

look harder as ADDER says they are there and if you don't look closely sometimes you can miss them

ok i went out wiped it down and sprayed it with cleaner and still nothing. bumped it looked around the whole thing....nothing. there is a chunk missing out of it but it looks like it was cast this way and the engine still runs fine. any thoughts ideas?

The numbers and marks are very small. Rust may have made it hard to read.

One mark that is definate and easy to find is TDC. As long as you can find that and have a dial back advance light you can set your timing without the small marks.

Mine was the same way. I had to sand it down completely to where the outside was shiney. It took quite a bit until I could see the numbers.

It's possible that your balancer doesn't have them, but this would be the first case I've ever even heard of where they're not on one. [&:] Try sanding the outside rim until it's shiney.
