Default Is a phenolic spacer really worth any gains? (GT-40)

Im finished porting my cobra cast GT-40 manifold, cleaned it out over and over, and im about to put it on. The question i have is weither or not a phenolic spacer will actually give me any power? They are only $65 at summit which is right down the street, should i get one? I know they are used to keep heat transfer down from the rest of the motor to the upper intake, but will it boost power? Thanks!

Not really used so much to gain power as they are to help certain setups clear the valve covers. You may gain a little bit of torque but nothing your going to really notice. Keep in mind, if you go with a spacer and you have the stock hood, there's a good chance it won't clear.

wish I had read this last week then.

I am replacing my GT intake with a ported cobra and figured that if I didn't I would always wonder "what if"? I really wish it had been mentioned somewhere in my research that I needed an EGR spacer as well so that I could have been done already.

My intake stays quite a bit cooler after the spacer than it did without it. Mine doesn't clear the stock hood, but i'm still using it, so I have a little dent where the front bolt hits. I'm using a 1" spacer though with the explorer intake. I have a friend that's using one with a cobra intake & clears the hood fine.

My egr is no longer working & the coolant lines on the spacer have been blocked. Even after both my intake was cooler after the spacer.

As for any gains... I noticed nothing special, but I just have a filter in the engine bay collecting warm air. May have helped if I ran my intake ducting into the fenderwell instead.

Just my .02

if u get a 1/2inch or smaller it will clear a stock hood. i did not believe in them before my intake came with one and when i went to the track my lower intake would be too hot to touch and the upper was rom temp or cooler. i was very surprised. if keeps a lot of heat out of the upper intake

Not on a n/a setup.

Better off putting that in the gas tank.
