Default how do I know if my computer is sending corrective codes?

Its probably a stupid question however I have to ask. In the past I have had engine lights blink on certain vehicles if the computer is producing a code for what ever reason. Will my 95 do the same. The thing is getting difficult to start when cold and I am trying to narrow down the problems. If I hook a code reader up now will it show me anything? because there is no signs on the dash indicating my computer has detected anything wrong....

Run a set of DIY KOEO/KOER/Cylinder Balance Self-Tests and find out.
