Default More problems!

So... i finally got around to installing my pushrods and rockers on my edelbrock heads and now i have a problem. they are pedestal mount rockers (yes i know i have to use them until i can save for afr headsw/ adjustable rockers) and i am having problems with three of them. after i torqued them down i noticed that three of them had a lot of play, and when i turned the motor over i can see the springs popping, like the valves are sticking. the heads were disassembled and cleaned thoroughly and then new valve springs were added during the reassembly. the heads realy only had a couple of miles of run time on them on the 331 before i decided to sell the car and keep the motor. am i gonna have to pull the heads?[:@]

Default RE: More problems!

are you sure you were on the base circle of the cam when initially adjusting rocker?? I like to use the tdc method instead of the split over lap method because I can do both intake and exhaust at same time..........and with the build you have it's really serve you well to just buy a stud conversion kit for the heads in the meantime.....and after setting up the rockers initially often times they will compress after rotating motor over expecially if they are new lifters cause there is no hydraulic pressure to maintain the cup in the up position.....after priming motor check for looseness again after double checking that adjustment was made with the lifter on the base circle or if you use the tdc method there should be no question on that matter

they are pedestal mount so no adjustment. i did torque them down while they were on the base circle though. i am also worried about the springs popping. its like the valve didnt close all the way when the lifter went onto the base circle and then snapped shut all of a sudden.
