pull the line off the vaccum advance and set base.....if it's a stock build then no need to adjust curve via heavier springs or different weights.......anyway once base is set then reinstall hose and drive away

I guess I'm old!. I was showing my son the other day how we use to set the points gap using the cover from a book of matches for a feeler guage (.017 - .018). I also use to use my mother's fingernail file to file the points down when they started to pit. You could get a few more miles out of them by doing that. The one good thing about a points set up is if it died, you could always get it running with just a screwdriver!

Dont know if your interested, but Pertronix makes a nice points eliminator module that fits under the stock dist. cap. I used one on an old Mopar that I had, worked great and I believe it was under $100.

I currently run aPertronix Ignitor in my 74 F250 (300 six). It works great, no more points to adjust.
