Default I'm gonna lose my mind

Well,

I just got finished fixing a coolant leak on the timing cover gasket. So drivin home today I got on it through 1st and second. I check my mirror and notice a small, thin cloud of white smoke still coming from the back of the car even though I wasn't on it anymore. I thought it might've just been some carbon build up, and let it go. At that moment I think the car was still at 190. So I drove for about 2 more min and arrive home. I pull in the garage and shut the car off, the car turns off, but I still hear this very audible hissing noise, it keeps going for about 3 sec, the fades away. I look behind the car and sure enough I had been leaking coolant. Pretty good too cause the 5 sec I waited in my driveway for the garage door to open it made a puddle. I check the temp gauge and notice it creeped up to 210. The resovoir was really low, haven't removed the rad cap yet. I looked under the car and there's a puddle under there too. It's more towards the back of the engine between the oil pan and tranny though. What is back there that could leak coolant?

I believe there are 2 expansion/freeze plugs in the rear of the block, just behind the flywheel?. My 89 leaks coolant in that area also, it just isn't bad yet. If this is the source of your leak, you will have to pull the tranny and flywheel to reach the plugs. It could also be the rear of the lower intake, with coolant running down the bellhousing?

Oh. I really really hope it's the second one. Why is it that a coolant leak always requires A huge dis-assembely to get to? lol Which one of those 2 is more likely to let go while the engine is at wot?

Hmm. I'll just have to wait till tmrw to get the pressure checker. 86 5.0L, in your experience, was it the intake mani gasket, or was it something that plugged in the back of the intake mani?

I'd do a compression test on it. If you were blowing white smoke than either coolant is leaking into the intake area or a head gasket. compression test will at least rule out the head gasket.

I'd be willing to bet its the lower intake leaking. Also, check the heater hoses, they could be drippin onto the exhaust..

Gotcha. How do I do a compression test?
