Melted Headlight Switch Harness w/ (pics)
Hey guys last night my head lights were the only thing that came on, no parking lights, dash lights or tail lights. The headlight switch had been acting funny for about a week. I pulled the switch out and the harness was cracked and melted. The wires look good but the harness is trashed. I ordered a new headlight switch and new harness from Late Model Restoration. Just wondering why it got so hot, the fuse is fine. The fog light Harness looks great, but maybe thats because I never turn the fog lights on. Dont know?

Something is wrong with the pics, they are not showing up. Either you moved them or they got deleted. Most likely the switch shorted out and the weakest falut was by the connector.
Also I gues you are not gonna be buying fords now seeing that the harnes melted, meaning the quality is inferior and no longer gonna buy ford?

Had to put that in there cause of the BBK bashing thread you had.

The problem that has occured to you is a know issue with the wiring on the 5.0 mustangs with fog lights, the fog lights are tapped off the headlight switch and when using both together the factory did not wire it with sufficient gauge wiring to handle the current load and what happens is wires heat up and melt connections, there is a TSB from ford on this, best to do is repair damage and rewire fog lights so they are on their own dedicated circuit and relay

utter waste of time on such a miniscule repair, by the time I would get done dinking with ford on a vehicle of that age of whether or not they felt is falls under the RECALL, I could of had the repair made for pennies on the dollar, anyway 50gt you can leave the fog lights unplugged if you don't use them anyway
