my muffler fell off...
I hit a bump or rock or something and it knocked the muffler clean off of the inlet pipe. And now it kind of looks like a soda can that somebody stepped on.
The car is a 92 LX 5.0. I've been looking at replacement mufflers and was thinking about the Dynomax super turbo muffler on summit for about $70 apiece. This car is my daily driver and I do not do any racing. So my question to you is is there something cheaper I should look at? I was trying to avoid some of the cheaper items from kragen as I have had problems with items not fitting correctly or just being poor quality.
I was able to get the clamp on the tail pipe end of the muffler with some liquid wrench. But on the inlet side there are no clamps. It looks like it was welded on and when it was hit the pipe was pulled right out of the muffler. Is it supposed to be welded on or can I just use another clamp in the front?

well, I was looking around summit at some of the other exhaust parts and found some full exhaust kits. For $200 I can get the mufflers above plus the tail pipes, intermediate pipes, clamps, and flanges. And it looks like dynomax has a $30 rebate. I was thinking I would probably have to replace the old intermediate pipes anyway since the old mufflers were welded on to them.
They have 3 kits listed for my car but they look like the same thing.
WLK-17491, WLK-17490, and WLK-17455. The only difference I can see is that the first two have a pipe diameter of 2.25 and the third has a diameter of 2.5. Does anyone know what the pipe diameter for my car is? The pipes are kind of rusty so I dont know if I will get an accurate measurement.

So i'm thinking i'm just going to get one of those kits, I would just like to hear someones opinion on what the difference between those kits are. And does my car require the 2.25 inch pipes or the 2.5 inch pipes. Does it even matter if I am getting the whole kit? Wont they both bolt on to the cats the same?

hey, thanks for the comment.
Is the 2.5 kit the only one that will fit? Its about $50 more expensive so unless the other one wont fit or there is a large difference in performance I would rather get the cheaper kit. So is the 2.5 kit required for my car?

2 1/4 was stock for a fox, upgrade is 2 1/2.......IMO those walker dynomax kits will never outlast or sound as good as a MAC catback or flowmaster, of course you'll pay more for quality but it's your choice
