The backlash might be messed up.

pinion depth could be incorrect as well as backlash, check the tooth contact pattern on the decel side and I gaurantee it's not centered, it'll either have high heel or low toe tooth contact pattern which is where the noise will often occur, were the specs checked??? ie backlash is to be set between .008 -.012 and pinion depth I set it according to pattern

backlash is changed by removing shims from one side of the carrier and adding to the other side and this setting is to be checked with a dial indicator..........what I do is measure the factory shim thickness so I know how much the max new shim thickness is to be so I maintain the same preload on carrier bearings, now what one side ends up as vs the other in comparisson with factory original shims often is different but total overall thickness when both are added together remains the same

so do i have to take pinion out and pull bearing out and add more shims or is it all in the carrier now where i have to pull it out and add more shims, cause i think these guys from this shop all they did was unscrew old one screw on new one and its done

first what you need to do is check the backlash with a dial indicator on a magnetic base is what I use, then with checking compound run the pattern and see what it looks like on the accel vs the decel side, and from what ever you discover about those two things, you'll know whether or not you have excessive backlash or improper pinion depth
