yea they go bad and IIRC they cause backfiring and performance issues. i have a link for a test to find out, gotta find it real quick

its not relying on computer to adjust to crank position. i believe thats what the hall sensor does. spout out is like "default" mode. there is no adjust being made.

im having a hard time understanding how it would run better with the spout out.
I've owned 3 foxes, and stupidly each time I first timed each one I left the spout out and the car wouldn't go over 25mph. Without a timing advance the engine will just not produce power.

I don't remember if you said or not but have you had a timing light on it and watched it when it backfires and seen what the timing was? Too much advance would cause it so maybe the computer is the problem.

wierd thing is it doesnt happen everytime
