Default Coolant System Restoration

It don't look hard, but looks can be deceiving.

I was wondering what all it would entail. I filled up the overflow tank to the cold fill line about a month ago, and today the low coolant light popped on. It's time for some surgery, folks.

I found a crack in the top of my overflow tank, and I know there's a leak in the gasket(s) where the water pump is bolted to the block. I figured I might as well replace the hoses, as well.

Can anyone provide me with a mini-guide from start to finish? I'm a fart smeller, er, smart feller and I'll most likely pick up on it really quick once I get going. I mean, crap, can replacing some hoses, a couple gaskets and a tank be /that/ hard?

Waterpump removal is pretty much how it looks you cant really mess it up unless a bolt breaks. For that reason i suggest if this motor has been together a while you replace the bolts its cheap insurance.

As for a flush the easiest way i could think of would be one of those low buck kits by prestone from an auto parts store.

Hows the radiator and heater core lines?

If your block is real dirty you may want to get a gano filter.

Cool deal. I didn't think there'd be any suprises. Do I need to buy the part-specific bolts, or can I just match them at a hardware store? Is there anything I should use to help back the bolts out? It looks like a brand-spanking-new pump, so I'd imagine that the bolts haven't been set for too long.

I only know there's a crack in the overflow tank and a gasket is leaking. I'm just replacing all the hoses for ease of mind.

Thanks for the info, all.

EDIT: I forgot...How much torque for tightening the bolts back down?

If you break a bolt on the water pump it will be a major job. When you reinstall the new pump use anti-seeze.
