lock cylinder most likely is not causing the crank until in run position.....get under the dash and take a look at the electrical portion of the ignition switch, un plug it and look for possible melted/overheated pins...if none founds the contacts may be bad in it and ignition switck/elec portion needs to be replaced

there isnt any moisture in the dizzy at all. the kid that had the distributor i was going to test in my car ended up not being able to come up with it, so im going to the junkyard sometime this week to try and find one for cheap that i can try out. and if thats the case, ill run that for the time being until i can come up with enough money to get an msd ignition system

I agree with mjr46. Check the ignition switch. Follow down on the right side of the column, and you should find it. Another problem with them is that plastic portion will come loose from the metal portion, some cars have tamper proof torx headed screws holding it on.

On summitracing.com this part number, Standard Motor Products US104L, is a replacement for both a 1989 4 cyl LX and a 1993 GT 5.0. So with that being said, it SHOULD work. I stress should as long as the pigtail that comes off of the cylinder matches up. There is only one way to find out, give it a try and see if it works.
