Nitrous 50-150 hp, heads 20-70 hp, induction 5-30 hp, camshaft 10-30 hp, Those are just some ideas. Depends on what you want to do exactly. Are you planning on doing bigger and better things to the car later on? You just want to make it a quick and fast job for the time being and sell it ? What do you want at the end of your investment? 300hp? 600+ hp ?

Thousand bucks? Gears, 1.7 roller rockers, headers/high flow cats?
Everybody'll give you a different answer. Good heads will run you close or over your $ mark unless you find a deal somewhere (on my invoice a set of Edelbrock Performer heads ran me under $600). A gear change will run you ~$250 for parts (gears and complete install kit), plus another ~$250 for labor, but then your speedo will be off, and if it's a mechanical speedo you're looking at another ~$100 to get a box made and spliced in. Not going to bump your power up, but it'll make a difference in feel. A set of roller rockers would be like throwing a cam in, except you don't have to open up the motor (yank the valve covers, yay). If you're doing a rebuild, then stick a cam in, but it seems to me that rockers would be a lot less labor and material intensive. Plus they'll cut down on frictional losses.
