I was the same way, only thing I can figure is that there is some type of built in fail safe that stops the fuel pulse if all 8 cylinders can not fire.
I took it to my shop when I was fully stumped as to the problem, I told them I had no fuel injector pulse, and I was waiting to be told my ECU had died, or a wire in the harness was damaged, but after they had the car nearly 8 hours, they called and said it's done and told me that was the problem. They said it took them a long time to find it as they traced litterally every wire under the hood, and even they didn't think it would be a spark plug wire to cause the issue.
