another h/c/i about 300 whp
Hi, i have a 89 mustang. I just pulled the engine out to put in a used engine from prestige mustang, bone stock, well i would like to reach 300 whp. Yestarday i bought some gt40p heads for 120 and have someone that will go through them for 300 + parts, today im getting the upper and lower intake off the same 99 explorer, should i get that ported if so how do i tell a machine shop what i need done if it depends on cam im leaning towards steeda #19 i see alot of people run that but im open for whatever this set up is called for(any suggestions) and depending on cam anyone know what parts i need to replace on the heads so i can put a grocery list together? And i know about the header issue imma just buy mac p headers

The only way you will see 300 hp is with a small shot of Nitrous. I'd rethink spending 500+ dollars on a set of GT40p's when you could buy a worked set ported for around 300 if you look around. If you are looking to hire someone to do the porting on either the heads or intake instead of doing them yourself you are going to be in deeper than had you purchaed a good H/C/I package. I'm looking into my Crystal ball and see you with an empty wallet and utter disapointment in your future.

^^^^^ agree with portmaster, you will not see 300 whp with those parts at all (unless nitrous or something added. All the little things will add up,
I would look for some trickflow twisted wedge heads, and a good intake such as holley or rpm II and a cam. Then we can talk about hitting 300 whp NA

honestly man theres no point of building your motor to have 300hp in one of theses cars unless u do suspension work and get sticky tires first.. hp is pointless if you cant get it to the road.. i would do suspension mods first

im so torn on what to do lol
I wanted to get tfs heads but not sure if 1700 was worth it so found these in a junk yard and they are the red headed step child
Whats a decent set up if i want 300 whp before the 100 shot

i have motor out of car so i kinda wanted to get a combo going. I can get tires all day but the suspension is going to be a process front strut tower brace, sub frames will prolly be first though, i just ordered a prothane motor mounts, misc arp bolts, and other small things. I havent looked into shocks struts or c/a at all yet. Just trying to figure out a direction for the motor.

Read the article "reach for the sky" in 5.0 mustang magazine feb. 2007
They used N-51hr cam, twisted wedge heads, 31# injectors, hurricane intake, and other supporting mods.
made 321hp and 343 trq

well you will need valve covers (i think), roller rockers, and possible pushrods. (along with injectors since you will be making more hp
