Default gear install

so i want to put new gears in my 95 gt and i want 3.73's, what do i need to buy to ensure that install goes smoothly and if i am not very good with mechanics, will i be able to install them, or will i have to pay a garage to do it? how long should it take a mechanic to do the gears so i know if he is shiseting me or not?

The shop I called quoted me 3 hours labor to do the job. I dunno if they were scamming me or not.

Yeah it sounds about right. Every install will differ in time. I've seen anywheres from 2-6 hours. Shims are a bitch man; can **** with backlash, pinion depth and proper tooth pattern forever.

3 hours is pretty reasonable.

3 hrs is about right if no bearings are going to be replaced....if your not good with mechanical work, gear install is not the job of choice to guniea pig with

okay...so i called a shop and they said if they buy the parts and do the install it should be around 800 bucks.....that sounds extremely pricey if it should only take around 3 hours....maybe 4

depends on quality of parts used,
gears 180.00 to 200.00
install kit with bearings, 120.00
labor.....250-350, depending on labor rate
fluid 20.00
so 500-600 is about average if a shop supplies all parts and labor using the average prices above with quality parts...800 seems a little high
